Multiple Planned Power Outages Across Campus

December 23, 2023

Facilities Management will be conducting annual maintenance and repairs to critical infrastructure on campus, requiring multiple utility outages which will affect several University facilities from 7:00 a.m. to 12:00 noon.

During these outages, no one will be allowed to enter any affected buildings without authorization from UTD Police.

Anyone with equipment in these buildings should take the necessary precautions to ensure it will not be affected during the shutdown. Please make sure that all computers and any sensitive equipment are turned off to prevent the loss of critical information.

Planned Power Outages at ECSN, BSB, RL

Facilities Management will be conducting annual maintenance and repairs to critical infrastructure at three buildings on campus, which will require a one-day power outage at those locations.

Emergency power will still be available.

During these outages, no one will be allowed to enter any affected buildings without authorization from UTD Police.

Anyone with equipment in these buildings should take the necessary precautions to ensure it will not be affected during the shutdown. Please make sure that all computers and any sensitive equipment are turned off to prevent the loss of critical information.

Rutford Avenue Closure

Rutford Ave. will be closed from Synergy Park Blvd. to Loop Rd. to allow for a crane to replace critical infrastructure on the roof of the Natural Science and Engineering Research Lab (RL)

Planned Steam Outage
from August 6-10

August 4, 2023

A University-wide steam outage has been planned from Sunday, August 6, through Thursday, August 10, so crews can perform critical preventive maintenance on campus heating systems. During this time, heat* [air conditioning / cooling will not be affected] will be affected in the following buildings:

Lane Closures on Waterview Pkwy
from May 30 - August 23

One or more lanes on Waterview Pkwy just east of Synergy Park North 2 (SP2) will be closed on the following dates:

• Tuesday, May 30 - Monday, July 3
  All southbound lanes closed. Southbound traffic will be temporarily redirected through one of the northbound lanes. Watch for directional signs.
• Tuesday, July 4 - Friday, July 7
  All lanes closed.
• Saturday, July 8 - Thursday, August 3
  All northbound lanes closed. Northbound traffic will be temporarily redirected through one of the southbound lanes. Watch for directional signs.
• Friday, August 4 - Monday, August 7
  All lanes closed.
• Tuesday, August 8 - Wednesday, August 23
  Possible temporary single-lane closures for sidewalk work. Watch for directional signs.

All dates are estimates. The latest updates (PDF [Portable Document Format File] ) on this construction project are available from DART [Dallas Area Rapid Transit] ’s construction contractor.

Road Repairs on Loop Rd SW and Lot J
from March 12-19

Portions of Loop Rd SW and Lot J (marked in the image in red) will be closed for repairs from 6:00 p.m. Sunday, March 12 through Sunday, March 19.

During these repairs, the Comet Cruiser’s south campus stop will be moved from the Transit Center south of the Visitor Center to the circular drive between the Visitor Center and the Naveen Jindal School of Management. Instead of using Loop Rd SW, the Comet Cruiser will enter and exit campus through University Pkwy. Once repairs are complete, all Comet Cruiser routes will return to normal.

Lot M Closures

Lot M West is closed for the construction of the new Edith and Peter O’Donnell Jr. Athenaeum.

Portions of Lot M East will be opened and closed intermittently during the construction. Watch for posted signs of safe paths to walking or driving past the construction site.

Alternate parking for students, faculty and staff is available nearby in Lot J, Lot Q and Parking Structure 1 (PS1). Alternate metered parking is available in Lot F and Parking Structure 1 (PS1).

Planned Power Outage on January 16

A limited power outage is planned for Monday, January 16, 2023, from 6:00 a.m. - 6:00 p.m. which will affect the following buildings:

• ECSN - Engineering and Computer Science North
• GC - Cecil and Ida Green Center
• GR - Cecil H. Green Hall
• JO - Erik Jonsson Academic Center
• SSA - Student Services Building Addition
• SSB - Student Services Building
• SU - Student Union
• TH - Theatre

All affected buildings will be on generator power throughout the outage.

During this outage, no one will be allowed to enter any affected buildings without authorization from UTD Police.
