Construction for North Mall Transformation to Begin Friday, December 20
December 3, 2013
The green area on this map shows the construction site for the north mall renovation, phase two of the Peter Walker Partners’ Campus Landscape Enhancement Project. Construction begins Friday, December 20, the day UT Dallas breaks for the winter holiday season. The north mall renovation project is expected to take a year to complete.
Renovation of the north end of campus will begin during winter break as part of the University’s Campus Landscape Enhancement Project. Landscape architect Peter Walker’s campus enhancement plan will expand north from the Trellis to the Administration Building. The project will produce a more park-like environment for the north mall to complement the transformation of the south end of campus, which was completed in 2010.
On Friday, December 20, construction crews will begin staging the green area on the map with equipment and fencing, which will remain in place for the duration of the project. The north mall will be closed to pedestrian traffic for at least a year as the renovation progresses. From December 20 to January 13, weather permitting, crews will work to demolish and remove pavement and heavy debris to make way for more green space. Students, faculty, staff and campus visitors can expect high noise levels, increased construction traffic and altered access points to affected buildings and areas of campus during construction, including the Administration Building, Erik Jonsson Academic Center, University Theatre, Founders North Building, Founders Building, Cecil and Ida Green Center, and Cecil H. Green Hall. Campus community members and visitors are encouraged to allow additional travel time to reach their destinations. Drivers may experience some delays as large trucks move in and out of campus, and road flaggers will be on hand to direct traffic as necessary. The entrance to Lot G will be modified. Pedestrians will be redirected to the perimeter entrances of the affected buildings and are encouraged to use the
skywalks (PDF [Portable Document Format File] ) that connect the Administration Building with the Erik Jonsson Academic Center, Founders North Building, Founders Building, Cecil H. Green Hall, Lloyd V. Berkner Hall, and the North and Engineering & Computer Science South buildings. Access to the Eugene McDermott Library, Student Union and southern portions of campus will not be affected. Power to Parking Garage to be Cut Off Briefly Friday, November 1
October 31, 2013
The garage will be open Friday, November 1, however, during the power outage its elevator, lights and signs showing space availability won’t be working.
On Friday, November 1, power to the parking garage will be disrupted from 9:00 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. in order for crews to address an electrical issue. The garage, at the corner of Drive A and Drive G, will remain open throughout the outage. However, the electronic car-counter signs, lights and elevators will not work.
Water Service to be Restored to Administration Building around 8:00 p.m.
October 25, 2013
A main water line valve failure has people working in the Administration Building visiting nearby buildings’ restrooms.
Restrooms in the Administration Building are closed following a water main equipment failure in the basement that led to water to the building being shut off. Employees are asked to use the restrooms in the Jonsson Academic Center until water service can be restored, which was expected around 4:00 p.m. Crews identified the issue around noon today as a failed part inside a backflow valve called an RPZ, a reduced pressure zone backflow preventer. According to Kelly Kinnard, director of Physical Plant Services, the part is 27 years old and hard to find. They ended up having to replace the entire valve. However, the replacement valve has failed as well due to a defective part within the assembly. Water now is expected to be restored around 8:00 p.m.
Helicopter Scheduled to Lift Equipment Onto Roof of Founders Sunday, October 20
October 16, 2013
The blue line on this map shows the approximate flight path a helicopter will take to air lift heavy equipment onto the roof of the Founders Building on Sunday, October 20.
On Sunday, October 20, the UT Dallas Facilities Management team will work with contractors to move an air handling unit and exhaust fan to the roof of the Founders Building via helicopter. Normally a crane could be utilized, but due to limited space and the terrain around the Founders Building it wasn’t feasible. The air lift will take place between 7:00 a.m. and 10:00 a.m. and should be completed quickly. The flight path will run from the end of parking Lot B off Lookout Road, to the roof of the Founders Building.

Sidewalks on the west side of Rutford and the walkway east of the construction site, which passes the English Language Center (ELS), will remain open. For more information, contact Facilities Management at 972.883.2141.
Campus Entrance off Waterview Debuts Friday, August 23, Ahead of Weekend Soccer
August 22, 2013
Accessing campus using the Loop Road, off Waterview Parkway at Tatum, offers a more direct path to the soccer fields.
UT Dallas will open new Loop Road segments A and B Friday afternoon, August 23, to ease heavy traffic anticipated for Saturday’s soccer games. The new road bringing vehicles onto campus off Waterview Parkway at Tatum deposits drivers onto parking Lot U near the soccer fields. Loop Road segment C, a small stretch from Lot U to Lot J, will be opened Saturday afternoon. The city of Richardson will place signs along Campbell Road and Waterview Parkway on Friday, alerting drivers to the new entrance off Waterview. The existing access road off Campbell will be closed and barricaded as well Friday afternoon. The city plans to permanently remove that entrance and add a curb and gutter on Campbell within the next two weeks. For more information, contact Facilities Management at 972.883.2141.
